Hashrate

Hashrate is a unit of measure that measures the number of hashes a computer can perform per second. Hashrate is a term applicable only to blockchain protocols that use the proof-of-work consensus mechanism. In those protocols, hashrate is the total combined computational power used to mine and process transactions on the chain. The higher the hashrate, the more secure the blockchain is since there would need to be more computing power available for an attack on such a network to be successful.
