ERC-20

ERC-20 is an extension of the ERC protocol and defines a set of rules that all Ethereum tokens must follow, making it easier for developers to create and audit token projects. ERC-20 allows for the creation of fungible tokens. This compatibility with most decentralized applications that support the ERC-20 standard makes it a popular choice among users; it is used widely on Ethereum. Additionally, not having to worry about different standards for different tokens helps spur growth in developing various decentralized applications within the Ethereum ecosystem. The majority of ICOs (initial coin offerings) release ERC-20-compliant tokens.
